Click on image to view larger Thirty six years ago today Three Mile Island had a partial nuclear meltdown that occurred on March 28, 1979, in one of the two Three Mile Island nuclear reactors in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history.
The Game Commission report for Monday 3/16/2015 there were 110,000 snow geese at Middle Creek. By Thursday 3/19/2015 that count had fallen to 65,000, amid sightings of high-flying flocks of snows. Flocks flying very high usually are on there migration route. Snow geese sometimes linger at Middle Creek into April, but usually not very many. Waterfowl Migration Update for Middle Creek
The Conowingo Dam is a large hydroelectric dam in the lower Susquehanna River. The medium-height, masonry gravity dam is one of the largest non-federal hydroelectric dams in the U.S. Construction of the dam started in 1926. Completed in 1928 it was the second largest hydroelectric project by power output in the United States, behind only Niagara Falls. The area below the dam is excellent for birdwatching. We had 10″ of snow the day before. The temperature dropped well in to the teens. I had taken my camera along to work with me thinking I would see what I could find on my way to and from work. (got there a little late) It was getting close to sunset when I remembered this scene. For sunsets I like to stick around after the sun goes down because you never know what the sky is going to do.
