Avon Pier
Avon Fishing Pier opened its doors in 1962 and was the final pier to be built on Hatteras Island. Like most piers in the Outerbanks, it usually opens the week before Easter and remains open until the weekend after Thanksgiving. The wooden planks towards the end of the pier are visibly buckled from repairs that took place over two decades ago. This distinct design has stood the test of time and remained that way ever since. We did receive some damage from last years Hurricane Sandy, but most of the damage was from the nor’easter this past March. This took out our “Famous T” at the end of the pier, the repairs are now complete for the season and the length of the pier is 600 feet.
