Veterans Memorial Bridge

Wrightsville and Columbia recently installed  65 new cast-iron lights with 1930s-style lantern design and LED bulbs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge. (Columbia–Wrightsville Bridge) Every morning on my way to work crossing the RT 30 bridge I can see the new lights reflecting in the Susquehanna. So one morning I took a detour to try and capture the lights reflecting in the water.  I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.

Susquehanna River Bridge 4

The Susquehanna River Bridge is a innovative bridge type — known as the precast concrete segmental bridge the six-lane signature bridge cross’s the Susquehanna River just south of Harrisburg  The structure would become the first major vehicular bridge in Pennsylvania to employ segmental design and construction.
In segmental construction, precast concrete “box” sections are manufactured at a concrete plant located at or near the construction site and linked together to form a structure. Precast bridge pier sections are stacked one atop another, and bridge deck sections are connected in a row and hoisted or lowered onto the piers. In concept and in execution, the technique rather resembles the assembly of a child’s Lego structure.

Susquehanna River BridgeTrying to be creative I decided to go and shoot the underside of the Susquehanna River Bridge with my 600mm lens. The next few posts will be images that I made that morning.  The Susquehanna River Bridge carries interstate 76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) cross the Susquehanna River between dolphin and York County.
